Wyoming County authorities found almost four dozen abandoned, sickly dogs Monday, after responding to a report of 40 to 50 dogs being abandoned on Bank Road in the Town of Middlebury.
Sheriff’s Investigator Jason Mayer, Deputy Renee Ficarella and county Animal Control Officer Justa Goodell found 44 dogs, described as Jack Russell and Chihuahua breed mixes. One was dead, and the others all were in poor health.
Sheriff’s officials say an arrest is pending, as the investigation continues. They did not say exactly where the dogs were found.
The officers took the dogs to the Wyoming County Animal Shelter. Anyone wanting to help pay for the dogs’ care may send a donation to the shelter, at 4380 Route 19, Silver Springs, N.Y. 14550.
