ROCHESTER — The Buffalo Bisons couldn’t hold a late lead and lost, 4-3, to the Rochester Red Wings on Monday night at Frontier Field.

The Wings scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3, then got the winner in the eighth. Nathan Hanson got the winning rally started with a double against Buffalo reliever Juan Perez. Pinch runner Eric Farris scored the run on a single to left by Brandon Boggs.

Luis Jimenez, the International League leader in runs batted in, tripled home a pair of runs, then scored himself on a single by Andy LaRoche when the Bisons scored three times to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth. The Bisons’ first baseman raised his RBI total to 26 in just 19 games.

The teams will close their four-game series this morning (11:35 a.m., TWCS, Radio 1520 AM). Dave Bush (2-1, 1.65 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Herd against lefty Andrew Albers (0-0, 4.58).

Meanwhile, Aaron Laffey opted to become a free agent rather than report to Buffalo after being optioned to the minors by the Blue Jays. He took a no-decision Friday for the Jays in a loss at New York.

The team announced the decision Monday.

Laffey was claimed off waivers from the New York Mets last Tuesday. The 28-year-old lefty made one start for Toronto, and was wild in a no-decision Friday night against the New York Yankees.

Laffey pitched for Toronto last year.

Buffalo is off Wednesday before opening a four game series against the Louisville Bats on Thursday night.

Batista was in control for the Bisons until the sixth. He had allowed just one run on five hits before then. A double by Evan Bigley, a walk a single by Jeff Clement and two sacrifice flies enabled the Wings to tie the game.

Meanwhile, Rochester starter Virgil Vasquez shut out the Herd until the sixth. Mike McCoy singled with one out and Moises Sierra singled with two out before Jimenez tripled to center field.
