The Hispanic Heritage Council of Western New York will celebrate “El Día del Niño,” or “The Day of the Child,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Frank A. Sedita Academy, 23 Lowell St. Activities will focus on character, nutrition and literacy.

In addition, about 20 community leaders and government officials will read with the schoolchildren in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

“El Día del Niño” originated in Mexico in 1925 and is celebrated each year on April 30 by many Latin American countries and in many cities across the Americas, the organizers said.
