Andrew J. Watkinson, of Grand Island, a banker and banking consultant, died Wednesday in Elderwood Healthcare at Riverwood, Grand Island, after a lengthy illness. He was 75.
Born in London, England, he was educated in England and served in the Royal Air Force from 1957 to 1959. He worked as a programmer analyst with the Nestle Co. in England and then for the Bank of Butterfield and Sons, where he was Bermuda Computer Center manager and trust officer.
After coming to the U.S. in 1975, he held various executive positions in Buffalo. He was manager of systems development for M&T Bank, a senior banking consultant for Computer Task Group and a senior vice president at Empire of America Realty Credit Corp.
Mr. Watkinson then formed his own company, Data Vinci Consulting Inc., and served as president. At the time of his retirement in 2003, he was a mortgage banker with Amaximus Lending Corp. of Texas.
He was a member of Toastmasters International and Junior Achievement. For several years, he coached the rugby team at Niagara University.
He had a passion for theater and was a patron of Niagara University Theater and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
He and his wife maintained a second home in Sarasota, Fla., where he was treasurer of the Lido Towers Condominium Association.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, the former Sharon Onevelo; and two sisters, Maureen Lyons and Pauline Cerino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Alumni Chapel at Niagara University.
