Abby Wambach will have to wait a little longer before making her home debut for the WNY Flash.
The FIFA women’s soccer player of the year and U.S. National Team star will miss Saturday’s home opener at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester against Boston for precautionary reasons after suffering a head injury during last weekend’s 1-1 tie at Washington.
The Flash said Thursday that Wambach, who is from suburban Rochester, was improving and the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported she passed a concussion test Monday.
Wambach, who is still expected to attend the game, suffered the injury after getting struck in the back of the head by a ball during the second half of last Saturday’s game. She kept playing and earned an assist on the Flash’s goal during the 1-1 tie.
