OLEAN – After more than a decade of involvement, Olean Mayor Linda Witte has been appointed to an important committee in the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials.

Witte has been named to the group’s Nominating Committee. The eight-member panel selects the nominees for seats on the executive committee.

Each year, four members of the 16-member executive committee are up for election.

The executive committee is made up of 15 mayors and one affiliate organization representative.

Witte was named to the position by the president of the committee, Ogdensburg Mayor William Nelson.

Witte has been a part of the state conference since she first started to serve on the Olean Common Council in 2001.

The Nominating Committee will establish the slate of officers to be elected May 6, at the 2013 conference’s annual meeting in Saratoga Springs.

The organization represents 582 cities and villages across the state.
