Extreme care required when handling fertilizer

On April 16, 1947, Texas City, Texas, was literally blown off the map by an explosion of 2,300 tons of ammonium nitrate fertilizer. More than 550 people died, and thousands were injured. On April 17, a fertilizer plant blew up in West, Texas, in close proximity to a school, retirement home and many apartments. Who thought that was a good idea? I’m reminded of the old saying: Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
