William J. Knaus, of Hamburg, a trucking company owner, died Tuesday at Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a short struggle with cancer.
He was 89.
Born in Buffalo, he attended Ebenezer High School and served with the Army in Europe during World War II.
Returning from the service, Mr. Knaus drove trucks for his uncle, then founded his own company, Skyway Trucking, which he operated for more than 50 years.
He also was president of Transportes Azteca International after acquiring the company.
He never retired and continued driving until last year.
He was a member of Buffalo Court 22, Royal Order of Jesters, and the Ismailia Shrine.
Surviving are a son, Larry; a daughter, Mary; and a brother, Charles.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hoy Funeral Home, 3855 Seneca St., West Seneca.
