NRA controls Congress to detriment of citizens

Various poll results are indicating that 80 percent to 90 percent of Americans favor better background checks on persons purchasing guns. Even conservative reporters claim “only about 55 percent” really want stricter background checks. Regardless, it seems clear that the majority of us want improved background checks included in our federal laws.

Yet we continually hear that it will be tough to get such laws through Congress “because of heated opposition by the NRA.” So let me get this straight: Most of us want stronger background checks, but we are outvoted by the big bucks a single-minded, self-important organization pays to influence our representatives.

This is democracy? What does the gun-mongers’ precious Constitution say about that?
