NEWFANE – A corrections officer from the Niagara County Jail is one of a number of residents whose unlocked vehicles are being targeted by thieves in the Ketchum Avenue area.
The 61-year-old corrections officer told Niagara County sheriff’s deputies Wednesday that sometime betweeen 11 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday someone entered his unlocked personal vehicle while it was parked in his driveway and took his duty belt, handcuffs, flashlight, belt keepers, radio holster, gloves, and also the holsters for each piece of equipment. A GPS was also taken from the unlocked vehicle. Total loss was $331.
The victim said several of his neighbors have been victims of similar crimes over the past several weeks, but had not reported them. The victim asked for periodic checks of the area throughout the night.
