Junior right-hander Mike Burke of the University at Buffalo pitched a three-hit shutout as the Bulls (18-14, 8-4 Mid-American Conference) clinched a three-game weekend series against Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich., 4-0. Burke allowed just three singles, struck out four and retired the side in the ninth inning on just seven pitches.

Burke has a 5-2 record and earned his 11th career win at UB. It was his second shutout of the season and he needs one more shutout for a UB season record.

UB scored twice in the first inning. Jimmy Topps led off and was hit by a pitch. He came around to score on a triple by Alex Baldock, and Tyler Mautner’s sacrifice fly scored Baldock. In the eighth, Baldock walked and scored again. Thomas Richards had an RBI single in the eighth as well.
