The East Aurora Theatre Company at East Aurora High School is presenting the world premiere of “Monsieur Melies, the Man in the Moon,” at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The musical introduces the audience to Georges Melies, movie-maker extraordinaire. Georges defies what is planned for him by escaping his father’s shoe factory and practicing magic and film-making, focusing on special effects to dazzle audiences in France and abroad.
His 1902 movie, “A Trip to the Moon,” is recognized as the first science fiction film, and is named among the most famous films of the 20th century, with its iconic image of a spaceship landing in the moon’s eye.
“Monsieur Melies, the Man in the Moon,” is an original musical, with books and lyrics by Rory Brake and Chris Cummins, and musical score and additional lyrics by high school choral director Paul Blackwell.
Tickets are $5 at the door, online at www.showtix4u.com or by phone at 866-967-8167.
