Attorney Michael B. Powers handled Bernard Kieffer’s recent appeal of punitive damages awarded by a jury. Insurance company lawyers represented Kieffer and the Town of Clarence in a 2009 trial in which they defended claims brought by a property owner with a phobia about frogs. Powers was hired after the trial solely on the issue of the punitive damages, and Kieffer prevailed at the Court of Appeals. A story in Monday’s editions about the lawsuit filed by property owner Paul Marinaccio did not indicate who represented Kieffer at the trial.
