A team of two Burgard High School seniors finished 11th in the National Automotive Technology Competition finals, held last week at the New York International Auto Show in New York City.

David Thie and River Saxbury competed representing Burgard. A second local team, consisting of Dan Ruble and Kyle Jung, from the Orleans-Niagara BOCES Niagara Center, finished 20th. Both teams had advanced to the finals from a regional event in Orchard Park. A Burgard team had not previously reached the finals.

A total of 30 two-person teams from North America were in the competition, which tests students’ ability to perform tasks at work stations and to solve problems “planted” in the cars they are assigned to work on, within a time limit. The competition distributes prizes and scholarship offers, and is aimed at promoting careers in auto technology.
