Schwan’s Home Service announced a voluntary recall of two products they distribute, that are manufactured by Rich Products Corp.
Consumers who have purchased Schwan’s Live Smart Baked Mozzarella Bites #632 and Schwan’s Live Smart Mini Meatball Sandwiches #630 are asked to return these products to their Schwan’s sale representative during their next visit.
Last week, Rich Products recalled a number of Farm Rich products, including Philly Cheese Steaks, Mini Quesadilla, Mini Pizza Slices and Mozzarella Bites – after an E. coli outbreak sickened 24 people in 15 states. The recall was then expanded to all foods manufactured in its Waycross, Ga., facility, out of concern that they could potentially be contaminated with the E. coli bacteria.
Two of the 24 cases, affecting consumers in New York State and Texas, were linked to products in the original recall.
The products in the expanded recall were sold under Farm Rich, Market Day and Schwan’s labels and have “Best by” dates from Jan. 1 to Sept. 29, 2014.
No illnesses have been linked to the expanded recall, but Dwight Gram, a spokesman for Rich Products, said the company isn’t positive there are no additional contaminated products.
“Any possibility that one more person can become ill is simply unacceptable,” Gram said.
Farm Rich Products and other Schwan’s products that were produced at other plants are not affected.
Symptoms of E. coli can occur up to 10 days after exposure and include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting.
Customers with questions can contact Schwan’s at 866-972-4926 or Farm Rich at 888-220-5955 – or visit farmrich.com.
