Donald R. Schneegold Jr. of the Town of Tonawanda, an active local hockey coach, died Tuesday in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda. He was 48.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Schneegold earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Buffalo State College.

Mr. Schneegold was a hockey coach for several years. Among coaching assignments were the Wheatfield Blades, North Buffalo Thundercats, North Buffalo Girls 19U team, North Buffalo’s Spring Hockey League and Niagara County Coyotes.

Most recently, he coached the Buffalo Hornets USA Hockey Senior Women’s B National Bound Tournament Team. He achieved Level 5 coaching status.

Off the ice, Mr. Schneegold designed and manufactured jewelry displays, custom carrying cases and specialty packaging for family-owned businesses. He also had managed Buffalo Specialty Packaging Co.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, the former Robin L. Vaccaro; and a daughter, Ashley M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Friday in Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 85 Dakota Ave.
