Two local lawmakers are inviting constituents to join them at a blighted house in Cheektowaga at 10 a.m. today to push for proposed state legislation that would force banks to provide maintenance for vacant properties that are under foreclosure.

State Sen. Timothy Kennedy and Assemblyman Sean Ryan, both Buffalo Democrats, say the property at 35 Gary Lane, Cheektowaga, has been left in limbo because of delays in the foreclosure process.

The proposed law would require banks to keep such properties in good repair.

Kennedy and Ryan also are working to pass legislation that would require banks to help homeowners avoid foreclosure through early notification and support measures.
