In a NeXt story last Thursday about the Amherst Youth Court, the article failed to mention the largest youth court in the Southtowns – the Orchard Park Youth Court, which has been in existence since 1994. The Orchard Park Youth Court meets every third Saturday of the month. In its recent interview process to replace outgoing seniors, nearly 100 students applied for 40 openings.

CALLING ALL FILMMAKERS

Nichols School will hold the 13th annual FLICK Fest Student Film and Video Contest at 7 p.m. April 25.

Videos from students in Western New York middle and high schools must be about five minutes in length, but longer pieces will be considered. Students are asked to send their videos on DVD and, if necessary, specify which clip they would like to have screened. All entries must include title, name, address, telephone number, email address, grade and school. Deadline for entry is Monday. UP FOR A CHALLENGE?

Registration is open for the Garlic Mustard Challenge, a friendly competition to remove the invasive plant from area nature preserves that will kick off April 13. The teams that remove the most garlic mustard from each site will win $200 and an overnight stay at Beaver Meadow’s cabin in the woods. The runner-up at each site will win $50. Kickoff events will be held at 10 a.m. April 13 at four locations: Beaver Meadow Audubon Center, 1610 Welch Ave., North Java; Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve, 93 Honorine Drive, Depew; Kenneglenn Nature Preserve in Wales; and Lewiston Plateau Habitat Area in Lewiston (the kickoff will be held at the Lewiston Library, 305 Eighth St., Lewiston).
