Erie County residents can dispose of hazardous household waste during two events on Erie Community College’s North and South campuses in May and June.
A waste drop-off will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 18 on ECC’s North Campus in Amherst. Participants should enter from Wehrle Drive.
A second drop-off event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 15 on ECC’s South Campus in Orchard Park. Participants should enter from Route 20A.
Items that can be dropped off include up to 2 gallons of pesticides, fertilizers, and pool and household chemicals and cleaners; up to 10 gallons of oil-based paints and spray cans; up to 2 gallons of paint thinner, stripper and solvents; lead acid and rechargeable batteries; up to 10 gallons of oil, gasoline, kerosene and antifreeze; mercury in thermometers, thermostats or metal; and full or empty propane tanks and cylinders.
Items that will not be accepted include latex paint, tires, computers and electronics, appliances, fluorescent bulbs and commercial or industrial wastes.
The event is organized by the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, ECC and the Northeast Southtowns Solid Waste Management Board.
Support is also provided by Elwood Fire Protection Inc., Noco Energy Corp., the Battery Post Inc. and the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
