DUNKIRK – Three new festivals are to be added to this summer’s calendar of events in Dunkirk.
Mayor A.J. Dolce said the first new event will be a family picnic day called, “Picnic at the Point on Memorial Day,” being coordinated by the city’s Recreation Department.
The second will be the Great Lakes Experience Festival on June 15. The festival promotes environmental awareness in the Great Lakes. The mayor said the city will allow the Great Lakes festival organizers to collect fees from vendors and will waive its fees to make a contribution to the festival. He said the city will also provide some help with advertising fliers.
The third addition is a Heritage Festival in September. It will celebrate various ethnic heritage groups represented in the area.
Regular festivals including the Wreck and Roll in June, Fourth of July Festival and Thursday on the Pier concerts are also included in the calendar for this year.
The mayor spoke at the annual meeting of the Dunkirk Local Development Corp. Wednesday in City Hall.
The group voted to approve Joe Becerra as treasurer and chief financial officer. Reports on several businesses that have borrowed money from the development corporation were provided to members for review. The members were also asked to review the mission statement and complete evaluations as members of the board.
Chairman Steve Neratko asked for an executive session concerning the Enviroteknix Co. The motion authorizing the closed-door session said that pending litigation or the finances of the company would be discussed.
