The State Senate on Monday passed Alix’s Law, which would close a legal loophole and make it a felony for a drunken driver to leave the scene of an accident.

The legislation, sponsored by State Sen. Patrick M. Gallivan, R-Elma, is named in honor of Alix Rice, the 18-year-old Amherst woman killed by a drunken driver who drove off and therefore couldn’t face felony charges at the scene.
