Vast majority support Cuomo’s equality plan
A recent Another Voice declared that “women of every color and creed indisputably recognize as empowering” nine points of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s 10-point Women’s Equality Agenda. The writer almost got it right. The 10th point, which would bring New York’s antiquated reproductive health law into line with today’s federal law and state practice, also is essential for women’s economic empowerment. When women have control over important areas of their lives, including their jobs, housing and reproductive futures, they can better participate in the economy.
Women of every color and creed indisputably support all 10 points of the Women’s Equality Agenda. In fact, polls show 80 percent of New York voters, including 72 percent of Catholic voters and 64 percent of self-identifying conservative voters, support enacting a law to ensure a woman’s right to make private health care decisions regarding pregnancy. I know I am in good company when I urge our Western New York state representatives to support the Women’s Equality Agenda.
