Here’s a story that underscores the idea that the band-naming process can often be a random affair, with the group’s moniker only seeming like a perfect fit in retrospect, when the outfit in question has already proven its commercial prowess. Case in point: Melodic metal-core outfit the Devil Wears Prada, a Christian-themed hard-core band whose members chose their collective moniker from the novel of the same name. However, the band did so without bothering to read the book, assuming from the title that the novel would be in keeping with the group’s own worldview, which it has described as “anti-materialist.” That didn’t exactly turn out to be the case, but by then, TDWP was already commanding a sizable and devout following, and a name change seemed to be a bit of a “changing horses in midstream” proposition.

When the Devil Wears Prada plays the Town Ballroom Friday, the band will be joined by hard-core brethren As I Lay Dying, whose name comes from the William Faulkner novel of the same name.

This show was originally scheduled to take place at Club Infinity in Clarence, but following that venue’s abrupt closing last week, the show has been moved to the Town Ballroom. Tickets purchased for the previous venue will be honored.
