The Blasdell Village Board this week will vote on a $2,174,181 general fund budget for 2013-14 that carries an estimated tax rate of $19 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, up 19 cents from the current year.

Village Clerk-Treasurer Janet Plarr said the $53,215 increase from the current budget is primarily due to higher costs related to the New York Employees and State Police retirement systems and increased health insurance rates.

Almost $150,000 in original departmental requests were pared back by the Village Board.

Officials will rely on $792,650 in local revenues and $100,000 in appropriated fund balance, sometimes referred to as a rainy day savings fund, to balance the budget.

The remainder, $1,281,531, will be covered by local property taxes.

Property assessed valuations have been dropping annually in Blasdell and have fallen by $7,400 in the past year.

Budget adoption is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Village Hall.
