A St. Joseph’s Day table will be open to the public from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Village Square Events & Catering by Sinatra’s, 2878 Delaware Ave., Kenmore.

This is the 32nd year that the Sinatra family is serving a free, traditional meatless meal on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who enjoy the feast are asked to make a donation in the donation box; proceeds will benefit a local church.

The Catholic tradition dates back to 15th century Siciliy, where famine-stricken villagers prayed to St. Joseph for relief and promised to offer a meal to the poor if their prayers were answered. The feast always is open to friends and strangers.
