The Buffalo Regals/Jr. Sabres 18-under team defeated the C.P. Dynamo, 3-1, Sunday night to win the New York State Amateur Hockey Association championship at Northtown Center in Amherst.

Nico Gonzalez, Justin Simonelli and Frank Hora scored to help Buffalo win its 16th straight state title and earn a spot in the USA Hockey Championships, which begin April 3 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Goalie Andy Lee looked sharp when tested, making 10 saves. The Regals/Jr. Sabres (42-17-5), who killed a 5-on-3 power play midway through the second period and had a goal disallowed, outshot their foe, 53-11. C.P. Dynamo goalie Tyler Ellor made 50 saves and stopped 92 of 97 shots in two tournament games against the Regals/Jr. Sabres. The two teams opened the event Friday with a 2-2 tie.

Also earning a bid to nationals was Cheektowaga, which beat Plattsburgh in overtime, 5-4, to win the 16-under Tier II state title. Rochester denied Buffalo Regals/Jr. Sabres’ bid to reach nationals in the 16-under Tier I final, 2-1, in overtime.

The Arrows beat Cheektowaga, 5-4, in triple overtime in the Tier II 18-under final, while Jamestown won the 18-under Tier III title with a 4-1 win over Louisville.

In other area news, the Buffalo Junior Sabres announced Wednesday’s Game Five of their Ontario Junior Hockey League playoff series against North York will be played at 8:40 p.m. at First Niagara Center instead of at Northtown Center.
