The Town of Marilla will hold a public information meeting at 7 p.m. March 27 in the Community Center as a kickoff to the town’s Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan.
When completed, the plan will identify strategies to help protect quality farmland and support the contributions of agriculture to the regional economy.
The town’s plan, which is expected to be completed by late fall, is being put together by Barbara Johnston of Stuart I. Brown Associates. Farmers, farmland owners and residents are expected to be in attendance to help point up issues to be addressed by the plan.
How the plan will be developed will be the subject of a presentation.
During a recent board meeting, Supervisor George Gertz set a public hearing on the Town Constable law for 7:30 p.m. April 11. Gertz also delayed setting a date for a public hearing date on the request of businessman Leon Berner to rezone a 25-acre site currently zoned for agriculture on Clinton Street. Gertz said he needs legal elaboration on Berner’s plan to divide the site.
Berner wants to rezone the site to business before he sells it or subdivides it, town officials said. Berner told the board a concrete construction company may be interested in some of the land.
In other matters, the board:
• Approved a $3,900 contract with EMW Sports, with $1,300 each going to soccer, football and baseball. The sum is Marilla’s contribution based on the town’s participation in the program.
• Announced that Innovative Mechanical Systems Inc. of Amherst submitted the low bid of $30,500 for central air-conditioning in basement meeting rooms and town court. The bids ranged as high as $57,400, officials said.
• Learned from Code Enforcement Officer Scott Rider that during February his department issued two building permits and collected fees for the permits of $50 on an estimated construction value of $15,000. The department also conducted six inspections.
