The Buffalo News will publish its annual directory of summer camps in Western New York in late April. The Bud Bakewell Bruins inducted seven individuals into the youth hockey organization’s Wall of Fame on Saturday.
The class included coaches Dale Marrs, Kurt Rapple and Bill Cline, board members and past presidents Don Hans and A.J. Bienias, board member and parent advisor Sue Hannon and board member and team manager Tina Garrett.
Marrs and Rapple guided the Bruins’ Pee Wees to the organization’s first Tier II state title and national tournament appearance in 2000. They also guided two other teams to national tournament semifinals appearances in following seasons. Marrs also has coached Hutch-Tech to numerous Explorer League and Western New York club high school league titles. Cline coached McKinley to numerous Explorer League titles, as well, and also served as coaching coordinator for Bud Bakewell along with being a board member.
Freshman setter Maggie Concannon (St. Mary’s of Lancaster) was named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year in volleyball after leading Roberts Wesleyan College with 1,004 assists during the regular season. Concannon led the NCAA Division II conference with 9.56 assists per set. Additionally, Concannon contributed to the Redhawks’ 17-10 regular season record with 201 digs and 24 aces. The nursing major was also named ECC Rookie of the Week twice during the season.

BASKETBALL: The Pan American Grill & Brewery in the Hotel at the Lafayette, 391 Washington St., will host a March Madness Bracket Party Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Coaches vs. Cancer. Admission is free. Rich Gaenzler from The Fan 1270 AM will host the event. ... WNY Elite with USBA hoops will host a national qualifier tournament May 18-19 for high school boys and girls. FIELD HOCKEY: The Buffalo Sacred Heart coaching staff will host a field hockey clinic on Fridays starting April 12 through May 3 at Windermere Elementary School.
HOCKEY: Cazenovia Park Midget 16U tryouts will take place April 9 from 9-9:50 p.m., April 10 from 8-9:20 p.m. and April 11 from 8-8:50 p.m. Cost is $10.
