BATAVIA – Genesee Community College has named three people to key posts, including the Business Employees Skills Training Center, the college’s outreach to the local business community.

Reid Smalley will be the executive director of workforce development at BEST, a post he held at Middlesex Community College in Connecticut. He will join the staff on April 15.

Kathleen Schieffen will become provost and executive vice president for academic affairs on July 1. She has had more than 20 years in higher education and holds a doctorate. She has been a dean at Monroe Community College.

Sammy Naji has joined the college faculty as academic adviser, coming from SUNY Buffalo State and service in the banking industry.

Meanwhile, the Board of Trustees is reviewing a proposed five-year college strategic plan on six priorities for a period beginning in September of this year. They center on student and faculty success, culture excellence and sustainability.
