Winter is lingering, football is over and the Sabres are satisfactory at best. There’s not much to be excited about in Buffalo at the moment, or so I thought, until I spotted the Hertel Lounge, a newly opened bar further down the Hertel strip.

My best friend, Nadia, and I took a chance and checked out the Hertel Lounge for our weekly ladies’ night ritual. It immediately felt like it could very easily become our new place.

The commodious club interior instantly caught our attention with its modern decor and comfortable vibes. Three ceiling fans swirled as we made our way to the bar, which proved to be not just any ordinary bar. Hundreds of pennies are meticulously placed on the top of the wooden bar by the lounge owner. Anyone who guesses the number of pennies it took to cover the bar wins a free shot!

Behind the bar are three high-top tables with two or three chairs, placed perfectly for watching the game on either of the two large flat-screen TVs. There are other tables farther back as well, seating up to four people if you are rollin’ with a slightly bigger crowd. If you feel like playing a game as opposed to watching one, there are two pool tables and two dartboards inside the lounge.

While taking in the clean and refreshing atmosphere, Nadia and I ordered cocktails. I chose a treasured tequila drink, a salty Margarita, and Nadia chose a Vodka Cran with a splash of orange juice. The generous servings and scrumptious tastes further convinced us the Hertel Lounge would most definitely be our new spot.

Even more unbelievable than the quality of the drinks were the prices. Domestic draft beers are $3 and include classics such as Bud Light and Blue Light. Premium draft beers are $4 and include favorites like Guinness, Sam Adams, Angry Orchard and Rusty Chain. Bottled beers including Bud, Labatt, Corona, Stella and Molson are $3.50 to $4.

Here’s where the ladies need to pay attention. Well drinks are just $2.50 – and that’s not a special, that’s the everyday price. Midshelf drinks are $3.50, top-shelf mixes are $4.50 and premium to extra premium drinks range from $5.50 to $7. The wide variety of liquors include Jameson, Rumple Minze, Crown and almost any flavor of Pinnacle or UV your taste buds could want.

Glasses of wine are just $3.50 and include the always gratifying Sutter Home and Barefoot brands.

Despite the already low drink prices, there are still specials that change daily. (The Hertel Lounge’s Facebook page is constantly updated with drink specials and entertainment info.)

Speaking of entertainment, you can expect to have a great time any night you stop in. Mondays are karaoke nights, Tuesdays and Thursdays a DJ is always spinnin’, Wednesdays are salsa and merengue nights, and a live band performs on Fridays and Saturdays. It’s a party any day of the week!

The Hertel Lounge certainly lives up to its name by providing a relaxing atmosphere suitable for literally every kind of occasion.

Whether you’re out for a girls’ night to sip on martinis, want to grab a few brews with your buds for the game, or shake your groove thang to a live band, the Hertel Lounge is the place for you. No need to break open your piggie bank for this bar, just grab your friends and go!
