National Fuel Gas Co. gets high marks from its business customers, ranking second among Eastern utilities for customer satisfaction, according to a survey released Wednesday by J.D. Power and Associates.

National Fuel’s customer satisfaction score was 2 percent higher than the national average and 4 percent better than the average score among the 11 Eastern utilities included in the survey.

National Fuel ranked in the top third – tied for 14th – among the 51 utilities from across the country that were included in the survey, which was based on an online poll of more than 10,000 businesses that spend more than $200 a month on natural gas.

National Fuel ranked second in the East, trailing only New Jersey Natural Gas.

National Grid, another major upstate natural gas utility, received below-average marks in the survey. National Grid’s customer satisfaction score was 2 percent lower than the East Coast average and 4 percent below the national average. National Grid does not provide natural gas service in the Buffalo Niagara region.

New York State Electric & Gas Corp., which provides natural gas service in parts of Western New York, was not included in the survey.
