A Winslow Avenue man who admitted stabbing a man during a dispute was sentenced Wednesday to 18 years in state prison by State Supreme Court Justice Penny M. Wolfgang.

Last month, Anthony Williams, 25, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for stabbing Michael A. Ballard Jr. of Hauf Street in October.

Prosecutors from the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said the two argued about their previous arrests in another case.

Williams, Ballard and Ballard’s brother had been arrested on narcotics charges earlier by Cheektowaga police, law enforcement officials said at the time of Williams’ arrest.

After the fatal stabbing, Williams fled and was arrested at a Cleveland bus station, headed for Las Vegas.

Williams, who originally was charged with second-degree murder, claimed self-defense. The victim was found with a toy gun that resembled a real weapon, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
