A 22-year-old Cheektowaga man and a 19-year-old Amherst Street man were belatedly arrested for allegedly staging an armed robbery at the LaSalle Metro Rail Station at 3040 Main Street on Feb. 4, Buffalo police announced Wednesday.

Hugo D. Smith III, of Furlong Road, Cheektowaga, and Ameer Walker were being held on first-degree robbery charges. They were arrested at the NFTA police headquarters at 1404 Main Street during an interrogation Monday.

A complainant told police he had placed an ad in Craigs list to sell a $500 white Apple iPhone and Walker responded to the ad and set up a meeting at the Metro station. When he got there about 5:55 p.m. Feb. 4, the complainant said, Walker and Smith confronted him and both were armed with handguns. He said they stole his iPhone and another $200 cellphone he was carrying.
