The Buffalo Junior Sabres have been idle since completing a first-round sweep of Burlington to open the Ontario Junior Hockey League playoffs last Sunday but will resume their quest of winning their first Junior A playoff championship when they open quarterfinal play against North York this week.

Buffalo will have home-ice advantage for the best-of-seven series against the Rangers, which begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday at First Niagara Center.

The remainder of the series’ schedule was still being worked out as of Saturday.

The team announced on its website it will play two games away from its normal in-season home, Northtown Center in Amherst, during the series due to difficulty securing ice on short notice. Northtown Center will be hosting the Tier I, II and III state amateur hockey tournament at ages 16-under and 18-under Friday through next Sunday.

The Junior Sabres went 2-3 during the season against North York, all close games decided by no more than two goals. The Rangers advanced by beating Oakville in six games, clinching the series with 7-4 win Friday.
