Ellicott Street, between High and Goodrich streets, will be closed starting today ► FRIDAY ◄ as a safety precaution for vehicular and pedestrian traffic in preparation for the construction of the new John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital.

Preliminary work will begin on a pedestrian service tunnel connecting the new hospital with the Buffalo General Medical Center as well as a utility duct bank for electrical service beneath Ellicott Street, according to a statement from Kaleida Health.

The entrance to Buffalo General Medical Center at High and Ellicott streets will remain open; however, patients and family members needing handicap-friendly access should use the valet entrance at either Gates Vascular Institute or the main medical center.
