A major Midwestern automotive dealer group is moving into the Buffalo Niagara market with its purchase of Don Davis Honda in Amherst.
Zeigler Automotive Group, which operates 40 new-car sales franchises in Michigan, Illinois and Indiana, has purchased the Don Davis dealership and renamed it Zeigler Honda of Amherst.
Zeigler paid $3.2 million to acquire the Don Davis Honda site at 2277 and 2215 Niagara Falls Blvd. in Amherst, according to records filed with the Erie County Clerk’s Office.
Zeigler said it plans to upgrade the Amherst dealership by building a new showroom that meets Honda’s Generation 3 dealership standards, which include Wi-Fi service, a customer lounge with a fireplace and flat-screen televisions, as well as a two-story atrium and complementary iPads for customers to use.
Zeigler, which is based in Kalamazoo, Mich., last year built the first Generation 3 dealership that opened in the United States at its other Honda franchise in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Zeigler sells Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, BMW, Honda, Mitsubishi and Lincoln vehicles from dealerships located in Kalamazoo, Plainwell, Grandville and Lowell, Mich., Schaumburg and Downers Grove, Ill., and Elkhart, Ind.
The Amherst dealership will be Zeigler’s second Honda franchise. The company, which was founded in 1975, has more than 600 employees.
John L. Davis, the president of Don Davis Honda, could not be reached to comment Friday.
