The well-known McCorkle is the beloved and tragic one whose name even now brings sadness and regret to music lovers – Susannah McCorkle, the gorgeously talented jazz singer who survived breast cancer but suffered from depression and, at the age of 55, committed suicide shortly after being dropped by the jazz record label that had stood by her for so long.
Of unusual and happily growing interest is unrelated writer Jill McCorkle who began her career with a bang at the age of 26 by publishing two novels at the same time. (Not exactly common, that.) She has, ever since, steadily accumulated a large reputation as a writer’s writer, Southern division, as an accomplished master of the short story as well as a novelist.
McCorkle, 55, will be in Buffalo where she will sign books and talk about her work, which includes her latest novel “Life After Life.” – Jeff Simon
