For more than 25 years, John Bacon Jr. has been one of our area’s premier drummers and percussionists. His resumé is stacked, boasting significant performance and recording work with the likes of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Maelstrom Percussion Ensemble, jazz luminary Roswell Rudd, Bobby Millitello, Bobby Previte, Wendel Rivera, Don Menza and various ensembles operating beneath his own name. During that time, Bacon – who is also a music educator, teaching and lecturing at Fredonia State College, the University at Buffalo and Villa Maria College – has proven himself to be eloquent in the languages of jazz, contemporary classical music, Latin sounds, avant-garde and even rock, when the situation demands it. Bacon is, by this point, the very definition of a master percussionist and a virtuoso musician.

Bacon will tackle something new when he performs a one-man percussion piece based on an improvised interpretation of various John Cage-inspired themes. Following Bacon’s performance, the Holland/Weissman Duo will perform “New Works for Percussion and Cello.” – Jeff Miers
