As leader of the hip-hop collective Odd Future, Tyler the Creator has never shied away from courting controversy. He’s been lambasted by critics and peers alike as misogynist and given to glamorizing violence, but to Odd Future’s fan base, the guy can do no wrong.
His last album as a solo artist, “Goblin,” sold well, drove them wild at Pitchfork.com, and endeared its creator even further to fans of mildly hippie-esque grooves and scattershot rhymes. Now, Tyler is set to drop a follow-up effort, “Wolf,” a collection that is said to favor instrumentals and deep grooves over straight-up rapping. Love him or hate him, Tyler remains a vibrant, modern hip-hop artist.
The tour celebrating “Wolf” includes a stop at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Town Ballroom (681 Main St.). Tickets for the all-ages show are $25 (box office, Tickets.com).
