St. Bonaventure men’s basketball received some good news on the eve of its Atlantic 10 Conference 7 p.m. road game tonight at Dayton. Bonnies forward Marquise Simmons has been granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA. He will be a redshirt senior next season.

Simmons, a 6-foot-8 forward, did not play as a freshman and missed all but the opener of 2011-12 with an injury. The NCAA ruling will allow him to complete the 2013-14 season. He is averaging 6.2 points and 5.1 rebounds this season.

Bona (14-13, 7-7 A-10) can virtually lock up a place in the A-10 tournament with a win tonight. St. Bonaventure’s final conference game is against Fordham on Saturday.

Dayton (16-12, 6-8) is on the bubble for the A-10 tournament. The Flyers have won their last two and are 11-4 overall at UD Arena, 5-2 in A-10 games. Also it’s Senior Night at Dayton.

At UB Alumni Arena, the Bulls’ women’s team (10-18, 8-7 MAC) will close out its regular season against Akron (20-8, 11-4) at 7 p.m.

The Bulls lost at Akron, 75-57, in their previous meeting.

Zips forward Rachel Tecca has scored 27 and 32 points in her last two games.
