Firefighters remained at the scene this morning of a long-burning fire that started at 12:30 a.m. in a long-vacant commercial building at Genesee and Doat streets.

They found heavy smoke and flames pouring from the former Gobieski’s Toy Store at 1655 Genesee, which has been unoccupied since the 1970s. Dispatchers said that a brick wall had collapsed and that firefighters, using three ladders, initially confined their efforts to the building’s exterior.

The blaze was described as a one-alarm blaze where extra equipment was required, fire officials said this morning. Further details were unavailable.
