NIAGARA FALLS – A woman suffered a cut over her eye when a man threw a plastic water dispenser at her face during an attempted robbery at the Rainbow Properties in the 1500 block of Main Street Monday afternoon.

The 63-year-old woman, a secretary at Rainbow Properties, told police that a medium-skinned black man, in his 20s, about six foot tall and 160 pounds, came into the office just before 4 p.m. with a brown scarf over his face and started jumping up and down, demanding she hand over all the cash.

The woman said she threw a portable grinder at him, then he ducked and grabbed the water dispenser, which he threw at her, striking her, and then fled without any cash. Police said the victim suffered a cut over her left eye which may need stitches. Police said they found the victim breathing heavily, with a cut on her left eyelid, crying and screaming, “He tried to rob me.”

Witnesses saw the suspect flee the office in full sprint, run through a parking lot, and enter a light-colored vehicle in the 800 block of Willow Avenue. Police recovered a hooded sweatshirt and a scarf that a witness saw him toss in a garbage can.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to be treated for her injury, police said.
