Buffalo Public Schools boys teams will try for a grand slam – overall class championships in A, B and C – while Olean and Jamestown will try for boys-girls championship doubles in Section VI basketball tonight.

McKinley in Class A, East in Class B and Middle College in Class C are the Yale Cup league teams trying to bring home titles for the Queen City in the championship tripleheader at Buffalo State.

McKinley (18-3) takes on Amherst (21-1) in the Class A game at 8:30 p.m. The Macks went undefeated during the Yale Cup League I season. Amherst has won 20 in a row since a loss to Clarence, including a 14-0 sweep through the ECIC IV regular season.

East (15-6) will take on No. 1 ranked small school Olean (20-1), the defending champion, in the Class B game at 7. Olean’s only loss was to Nichols. East, along with Middle College, finished tied for second in Yale Cup League I.

The championship tripleheader will open with No. 1 Silver Creek (21-0) meeting Middle College (16-5) in Class C.

Jamestown’s boys already have won the sectional Class AA title. Now the Red Raiders girls (17-3) will seek their title against Niagara-Wheatfield (18-2) at 8 p.m., part of a tripleheader at Niagara County Community College in Sanborn.

Upstarts Grand island (11-8) and Pioneer (13-8) will meet for the Class A title at 6:30, the third year in a row the two have played for the crown.

GI, the No. 3 seed in the A-1 bracket, upset No. 1 Hamburg in the final behind Cassie Oursler’s dominating performance (16 points, 21 rebounds). Pioneer, a No. 3 seed and the third-place team in ECIC III, defeated Cheektowaga, 50-49, in the A-2 final.

Olean (19-3) will be looking for its fourth Class B title in the last five years when it plays Wilson (19-1) in the 5 p.m. opener. Wilson’s only loss was to Holy Angels of the Monsignor Martin Association.

In Jamestown, Frewsburg (19-3) and Randolph (18-3) will play for the girls Class C title at 7 p.m. at Jamestown.

The class winners advance to the Far West Regionals this weekend.
