LE ROY -- With the funeral of five-month-old Michael C. Schad of Elba scheduled to take place in Batavia Thursday the Le Roy Village Police Department Monday confirmed it continues to investigate the circumstances of the baby’s death in the Full Tilt Custom Tattoo shop on Main Street here about 5:15 p.m. Saturday while his grandfather was getting a tattoo.
Police Chief Christopher Hayward was quoted in the Batavia Daily News Online Monday as saying “The investigation is ongoing. There is nothing at this point that shows any sign of foul play and we’re trying to determine if this was natural causes or some sort of tragic accident.”
The baby was pronounced dead at United Memorial Medical Center where he was rushed from the tattoo shop. His grandmother, Karen Schad, who was shop with her husband, Michael Schad Sr., when the baby stopped breathing passed out as bystanders tried to revived the baby before police officers arrived. The baby’s mother is Michelle Schad of Elba. She was not at the tattoo shop during the medical emergency.
