NIAGARA FALLS – A man with burglary tools caught leaving a vacant Whitney Avenue building early Friday said he was “scrapping,” Niagara Falls police said.
Dominique D. Horrell, 20, of 20th Street, was arrested just after 9 a.m. in an alley behind the home in the 1900 block of Whitney Avenue, said police, who noted he was equipped with a headband flashlight, crowbar, wire cutters, pliers, pipe cutter and tin snips – items frequently used in house burglaries. He was charged with third-degree burglary, attempted petit larceny and possession of burglary tools.
Damage was estimated at $1,000. Vacant housing in the city is a hot target for its copper plumbing, which is valuable on the scrap market.
