Layering, be gone. After months of piling on all those separates, women can appreciate the ease and versatility of a dress.
Long or short, patterned or plain, there’s a dress for every place and purpose you can think of. We pulled together a sampling of the styles available now or coming soon, including some with sleeves to please, for women who prefer them.
Your best bet is to try on a variety of dresses – from fitted to flowing. You may be surprised by the style that best suits you. Remember, too, that the same dress often can go from the office to an evening out simply by changing your shoes or glamming up your accessories.
Some dress trends you can’t miss: shirt dresses and sheaths in both solids and patterns, including scarf prints; many stripes; ’60s-style influences; pleats; peplums; drop-waist styles; lace (still); florals (of course), and bold colors – including red for spring.
And there’s news: Designer Derek Lam has fashioned a variety of dresses in his limited-edition Derek Lam for DesigNation collection coming in April to Kohl’s stores and www.kohls.com. These will include geometric stripes, jungle-inspired shirt dresses and maxi styles. Printmaster Duro Olowu has a lively collection at J.C. Penney (www.jcp.com), including dresses, also available for a limited time.
It’s going to be a lovely spring.
