Buffalo Police Officer Ronald Ammerman was credited by police officials Thursday with averting a potentially tragedy for a Poultney Avenue family.

Ammerman arrested a 16-year-old boy Saturday afternoon while the boy was playing video games in his upstairs bedroom. The officer found a stolen 16-guage shotgun under his bed.

Police had been told that boy, who was charged with felony criminal possession of property in the fourth degree, had told people he was going to kill his whole family while they were sleeping and he was also going to kill police officers.

The boy’s name and his status in the court system were not revealed by police officials as they lauded Ammerman’s professionalism.
