An Angola man survived being hit by a truck early Friday morning as he was trying to push his pickup truck to the shoulder of the Thruway in West Seneca, state police said.

John E. Haak apparently had run out of gas in his Nissan Titan just before 3 a.m. on the westbound side of the Thruway. . Police said he got out of his vehicle and was trying to push it out of the right lane.

At the same time, the driver of a box truck, Ronald W. Bulger of Buffalo, was changing lanes and apparently did not see the man in the road.

The box truck hit Haak and his pickup. The man suffered injuries to his pelvis and legs and was taken to Erie County Medical Center. He was listed in serious but stable condition in the hospital’s trauma intensive care unit.

Bulger was not injured

No charges have been filed in the incident.
