A 56-year-old Hamburg Street man was arrested on assault and other charges after a Van Rensselaer Street man allegedly foiled his house-burglary effort about 2 a.m. Thursday, fighting with him until police arrived after his 911 call.

Michael Rahauer was charged with third-degree assault, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and harassment after he was confronted by the homeowner as he allegedly tried to pick the side door lock to the house, When the homeowner opened the door to surprise him, Rahauer allegedly kicked him in the chest and they fought, damaging the door, until police arrived.
