The Buffalo Stars Girls 19U hockey team defeated the West Seneca Wings, 6-2, in the Great Lakes Girls Hockey League to place first in the West for the state championships to be held in Chazy on March 8-10.

Bernadette O’Connell of the Stars scored her first goal just 1:23 into the game. West Seneca tied the game four minutes later. O’Connell gave the Stars a 2-1 lead midway through the second period and 14 seconds later Marissa Janiga netted a shot from the top of the faceoff circle for a 3-1 lead. O’Connell finished the game with three goals.

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: Sports Performance Park announces will hold its second annual baseball/softball expo and sale at the Eastern Hills Mall from noon-5 p.m. on Saturday. Have your glove custom fit with the Mizuno steamer. Demo the new bats for the 2013 season. Talk with vendors about your needs for the season. Get your team ready with uniform orders. Special in-store promotions all day and a live broadcast with Wease and Kiss 98.5. Buster Bison and Jenn Salling of Team Mizuno, a four-year member of the Canadian National Team, will also be at the show.

BASKETBALL: WNY Elite Basketball with USBA hoops will be host a national qualifier tournament on May 18-19 for boys and girls from grades 9-12. Only six teams in each division. All teams entering will receive an automatic invitation to the USBA National Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C. CHEERLEADING: A cheerleading workshop for girls ages 7-14 will be held at the Gloria J. Parks Community Center March 23 and March 30 from 1-3 p.m. Girls will learn cheer basics such as chants, cheers, kicks and a dance routine in a fun workshop designed to build confidence, long lasting friendships and leadership skills. The fee is $20 and includes a custom made hair bow. Call 225-4396.

FOOTBALL: The CTF Mini-Camp for grades 7-9 will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 11, at the Ralph Wilson Fieldhouse. Registration begins at 4 p.m. The camp is for quarterbacks and wide receivers and each QB and WR must register as a tandem. Cost is $29. ICE SKATING: Mitchell’s Skating Center will be hold learn-to-skate classes for figure skaters and hockey players starting the week of March 25. Classes will be held in Dwyer Arena at Niagara University on Monday (5:15-5:45 p.m.), Wednesday (6-6:30 p.m.) and Friday (4:55-5:25 p.m.). ROLLER DERBY: Join the Queen City Roller Girls’ Devil Dollies at 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Century Grill on 318 Pearl Street, Buffalo, for an ’80s dance party. Tunes will be spun by the Transmission Dance Party’s DJ Bill. There will be basket raffles, a 50/50 split and drink specials. The Devil Dollies are one of the four home teams of Buffalo’s own Queen City Roller Girls, WNY’s official All-Women Flat Track Roller Derby League. The team is raising funds for uniforms, travel expenses and necessary safety gear. Ages 18 and over with proper ID. Doors open at 7 p.m. with music beginning at 7:30 p.m.

SOCCER: The Epic Center (2793 Wehrle Drive, Williamsville) will host an indoor youth instructional soccer clinic starting Saturday and lasting eight weeks. Highly experienced player and coach Brian Patterson brings his enthusiasm and passion for soccer, making each class informative and fun. The clinic is for ages 5-8. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Meal includes all you can eat spaghetti, meatballs, bread, salad and dessert. There will also be a Chinese auction.
